LOT DETAILS

Materials:

oil on panel

Size Notes:

each

Condition:

Both wings appear to be made of a single board. Each panel is flat, cradled, and stable. The painted surface is stable and reads well beneath the varnish. There are two small cracks to the panel in the figures of Joseph in the Nativity, and there is one vertical crack that runs down the left side of the Annunciation , though these are in no way distracting to the naked eye. Restorations are visible to the naked eye in the figures and backgrounds of both panels, and these areas and spots are more fully revealed under UV. For example, the faces of the angel and the kneeling Mary in the Annunciation have received attention, as have the body of Christ and the faces of some of the surrounding figures in the Nativity. The panels are offered in simply carved gilt frames that have been joined together as one, with the long sides of each panels facing towards the center
